A short overview of what data Droneportal uses and where it goes. Last updated 29.10.2026.

Who is responsible

The data controller for Droneportal (fly.vetlesdrone.no) is Vetle Kristoffersen (Vetles Drone). Contact: vetlesdrone@gmail.com.

No analytics of our own

Droneportal does not use any analytics tools of its own. We have no user accounts and store nothing about you on our own server. The portal uses Google AdSense for ads; see further down.

Storage in your browser (localStorage)

Some things are stored only in your browser and are never sent to us:

  • dp_terskler: your own thresholds for wind, temperature and so on, if you change them.
  • dp_sjekk: which items you have ticked in the checklist.
  • dp_met_…: the latest weather forecast for up to three positions, so the page does not fetch the same forecast from MET again before it expires.
  • dp_kp and on dp_kpvarsel: the latest Kp data from NOAA, for the same reason.

You can delete this at any time by clearing the site data for fly.vetlesdrone.no in your browser.

Location

If you tap “Use my location”, your browser asks for permission first. Your location is used only in your browser. Only coordinates rounded to 4 decimal places are sent to MET.

Requests from your browser to other services

The site has no data server of its own. Your browser fetches data directly from these services, so they see your IP address and what you request:

  • MET Norway (api.met.no): weather forecast for the selected position (coordinates with 4 decimal places).
  • NOAA SWPC (services.swpc.noaa.gov, USA): Kp index. No location is sent.
  • OpenStreetMap (tile.openstreetmap.org): map images for the area you are viewing on the Airspace page.

The map library (Leaflet), font (Inter), drone zones and protected areas are hosted on fly.vetlesdrone.no and are not fetched from anyone else.

The legal basis is legitimate interest (GDPR Article 6(1)(f)): showing you what you ask for, such as weather, Kp and a map for the place you have chosen.

Hosting (Netlify)

The site is hosted by Netlify, Inc. When you open a page, Netlify creates technical logs that include your IP address, browser and the time. The logs are used for operation and security. The legal basis is legitimate interest (Article 6(1)(f)) in a website that works and is secure. Netlify does not state a fixed retention period, but says information is kept only as long as the purpose requires (Netlify’s privacy policy, section 7).

Suggest an improvement

The suggestion form is sent via Netlify Forms and forwarded by e-mail to Vetles Drone. We only receive what you write in the field, no other personal data. Suggestions are only used to improve the portal and are deleted once handled. Do not write your name or contact details unless you want a reply.

Place search and dark mode

When you search for a place, the search term is sent directly from your browser to the Norwegian Mapping Authority (open data). Your choice of light or dark mode and simple or detailed view is stored only in your browser.

Google ads and consent

The portal uses Google AdSense. The ad code is on all pages, but ads are only shown once Google has approved the site. When ads are shown, they pay for running the site so the tool can stay free. Ads should never get in the way of the tool.

When Google’s consent tool is active, it asks for your consent the first time you visit. The tool is certified under the IAB TCF. You decide whether Google and its ad partners may store and read cookies and similar data on your device, and whether they may use data for personalised ads. Until you answer, and if you say no, no personalised ads are shown. Google may then show non-personalised or limited ads. Limited ads do not use data for personalisation, but Google may use cookies or local storage solely to detect fraud and abuse.

When ads are shown, Google receives, among other things, your IP address, information about your browser and device, the page you are viewing and any cookie identifiers you have consented to. Droneportal and Google are joint controllers for the collection itself, which happens through the ad code on the page (Court of Justice of the EU, Fashion ID, C-40/17). Google alone is responsible for what it does with the data afterwards. Read more: How Google uses information from sites that use its services and on Google Privacy Policy.

Cookies

Droneportal sets no cookies of its own. Google’s consent tool stores your choice in a cookie so you don’t have to answer every time. If you consent, Google and its ad partners may store cookies to show, personalise and measure ads. You can see the list of partners and purposes under “Manage options” in the consent dialog.

The legal basis is consent under the Norwegian Electronic Communications Act section 3-15 and GDPR Article 6(1)(a). Storage that is strictly necessary to remember your consent choice does not require consent.

Change or withdraw consent

You can change or withdraw your consent at any time. Tap the button and the consent dialog opens again.

You can also manage ad personalisation in Google’s My Ad Center, or delete cookies for fly.vetlesdrone.no in your browser. If the button does not work, an ad blocker may be the cause. In that case no ads are shown either.

Transfers outside the EEA

NOAA is based in the USA, and Netlify is an American company. Netlify states that it complies with the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework and uses the EU standard contractual clauses for other transfers (sections 13 and 5 of Netlify’s privacy policy). Google may also process data in the USA. Google states that such transfers are made under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework or the EU standard contractual clauses.

Your rights

You have the right to access the information about you and to have it corrected or deleted. You can ask for processing to be restricted, and you can object to processing based on legitimate interest (Article 21). You also have the right to data portability where it applies. Withdrawing consent does not make earlier processing unlawful.

Droneportal does not store any information about you on a server. Your settings and checklist are kept only in your browser, and you can delete them yourself. Want to see, correct or delete information we hold about you? Send an email to vetlesdrone@gmail.com. You will get a reply without undue delay and within one month at the latest. The portal makes no automated decisions about you. You can complain to the Norwegian Data Protection Authority.
